Microneedling / Dermapen

Unlike injectable treatments, Dermapen microneedling is an entirely natural process that stimulates the body’s own repair and renewal process to create collagen. Micro-fine needles are adjusted to different depths and speeds to create fractional puncture channels on the surface of the skin. Facial needling with Dermapen helps get rid of unwanted lines and wrinkles and other blemishes, but you can also treat different parts of your body. Hands, neck and décolleté are all popular zones, but you can treat anywhere you feel needs a boost of collagen to repair thinning, sagging, sun-damaged or problematic skin.

What is Dermapen?

Dermapen is a medical device that uses 16 surgical grade micro needles to deliver effective skin needling.

Which clients are unable to have a Dermapen treatment?

Clients experiencing any of the following active conditions cannot have a Dermapen Treatment;

  • Papulopustular Rosacea
  • Acne Vulgaris Stage III-IV
  • Active Cold Sores
  • Warts
  • Auto-immune disorders including but not limited to; scleroderma, dermatomyositis, pemphigus / pemphigoid and lupus (a doctors permission is required prior to treatment)
  • Any bacteria or fungal infections
  • Open lesions
  • Solar Keratosis
  • Skin Cancer
  • Haemophilia
  • Clients who have used Isotretinoin, Roaccutane, Accutane and Isotane in the last 6 months
  • Clients who have had cosmetic surgery in the last 6 months of the area they wish to treat (a doctors letter of permission may also be needed)

What conditions can a Dermapen treatment treat?

Dermapen provides effective management for most skin conditions allowing treatment of multiple concerns due to its adjustable needle depth and speed. Dermapen devices are suitable for face, body and head treatments.

Conditions effectively treated include:

  • Ageing and Wrinkle Reduction with skin rejuvenation by Collagen Stimulation
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Hypopigmentation
  • Rosacea
  • Telangiectasia (facial thread veins)
  • Problematic / Acne Skin
  • Enlarged Dilated Pores
  • Milia
  • Keratosis Pilaris
  • Scarring
  • Stretch Marks
  • Alopecia

How does Dermapen work?

As the Dermapen is gently glided over the skin, microscopic puncture channels are lightly stamped into the skin’s matrix stimulating an inflammatory, or wound healing response. This promotes intense renewal, repair and rejuvenation. Natural growth factors are released to stimulate reformation and deposition of fresh restructuring collagen. In addition all treatments are enhanced with using infused topical actives specific to the conditions being treated at no additional cost.

How long does the treatment take?

The actually needling only takes 10 minutes but please allow 45-60 minutes for the full treatment that consists of a consultation, skin preparation and post needling treatment. Due to the quick speed of the needling large areas on the body may be done effortlessly.

How many treatments will I require?

Generalised rejuvenation can be achieved in as little as 3 treatments. Conditions such as scarring and stretch marks however may require a minimum of 5 seasons. Depending on the condition being targeted treatments are performed on average every 4-8 weeks. How many sessions you may need will be discussed on your consultation as each skin condition is specific.

What makes Dermapen so unique?

Only Dermapen uses a specialised spring loaded cartridge that is automated by an oscillating system. This delivers fast, fractional and a less painful treatment compared to other devices on the market. Dermapen’s patented technology delivers vertical channels into the skin minimising damage, downtime and discomfort. As it has adjustable speed and depth options, each treatment can be customised, with various conditions treated in one treatment compared to a Derma-roller, where you can only treat one condition per treatment. Due to the size of the pen small areas such as around the eyes and nasal folds can easily be targeted which cannot be done with many devices on the market. Each condition needs a different depth of needle as they are in different layers of the skin, which is why Dermapen is so advanced being the latest and most awarded skin needling system in the world.

How does Dermapen compare to other methods of skin rejuvenation?

Dermapen procedures are non-thermal and non-ablative. Treatment may be performed on all skin tones reducing any risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation or fibrotic scar tissue formation.

Is the treatment safe?

Yes, Dermapen clinical treatments may only be performed by a qualified Dermapen practitioner under strict sterile conditions. All treatment consumables are single use and sterile. The Dermapen also has a patented unique built in fluid guard mechanism making it the safest device ever.

What results can I expect to see?

By stimulating the skin’s natural healing response, the skin becomes re-texturised, rejuvenated and restructured, minimising the appearance of ageing, uneven skin tone, uneven texture, imperfections and areas of indentation.

How soon will I see results?

Results typically may be seen after just one Dermapen treatment, however cumulative treatments are required to achieve the full desired result. The regenerating process will continue for up to 24 months post treatment.

What is the downtime?

After a Dermapen treatment the appearance and sensation is similar to mild sunburn with skin feeling tight. Redness may last up to 2 days post treatment. Make-up may be used 24 hours post procedure to reduce any visible redness. Most patients can resume normal activities immediately after a Dermapen treatment. Some clients may experience minor itching, swelling or dryness on the treated areas due to the accelerated cellular desquamation. During the skin healing process, minor itching, hives, flaking or redness may appear. If symptoms persist please call Aura Beauty Clinic to speak to your practitioner on 020-7490 4999.

Do I need to take special precautions before the treatment?
